Chicka Chicka Photo Album

In keeping with our "Chicka Chicka" theme, I took photos of all my students and put them into a photo album.  I'm going to put it in our class library so the children can start learning each other's names.  I put a little monkey on each shoulder for fun!  They haven't seen the album yet because I just finished it.  I expect a lot of giggling!  (I do similar things with other class photos by putting Gingerbread men or other 'cartoon-type' characters in the photo and the children and their families LOVE it!).  If you'd like a copy of the album, please visit my Tpt store!

Ahhhh, it's so nice to have a weekend for some R&R....Twenty four little ones is a bit much for me!  Florida's class size amendment says we aren't supposed to have over 18.  After Labor Day we will get a new teacher and I will go down to 18! (And that will make it our fourth week of school!)  Whoo hoo!!!  When I started teaching in 1978, I taught kindergarten with 27 little ones in a portable and no assistant.  BUT, we weren't teaching them how to read and write, and little ones back then didn't seem to come with so many issues as they do today.  So 18 today is plenty, plenty for me!  I'm just curious, how many students do the rest of you have?  Are you full day or half day kindergarten?  Do you have an assistant?

  1. So glad I found your blog! Love your Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book. I teach full day kindergarten and we can have up to 30 students! So glad I am at 23 right now! Last year I had 26! I do have a wonderful full time assistant. She has been with me for 9 years now. This year I also have a full time "shadow" for one of my autistic students. She is a big help too!:)My Kindergarten Kids

  2. Wow! I am so jealous. I am in California, because of the budget crisis my class is at 36. We should be capped at 33 - so we are waiting for Labor Day to pass. No assistant - boohoo thank goodness for an amazing team. BTW wonderful blogsite, very helpful.

  3. There;s something wrong with a country that allows a class of little children to be that large, YET pays its entertainers/performers megamillions of bucks. Where ARE our priorities?

  4. Thanks for the idea of using photo albums. I'm going to do something similar. I teach a technical half day kindergarten where some kids leave at 12:30 and some stay all day. I have an assistant for 2 hours everyday and currently 17 students. I think that our limit is 21 students but that has to be an average of all the k-2 classes before anything is done about it.

  5. I teach in Alabama. Our cap is "supposed" to be 18 as well but I have 22 students. My co-workers have 21 and 22 students also. We have no local funding either, so we will NOT be getting another teacher unit and Alabama does not have kindergarten aides anyway. :-( But I feel a tiny bit better after I read Susan from California's comment. 36 kinders?!?! Holy Moly! How do you manage it?

  6. Very interesting. I had 26 but 2 returned to Young Fives program. We have no assistants. In our district we all have between 22 and 27 with no assistant, full day 8:45-4:00. So interesting to hear what other have. 18 would seem like heaven!!
