A new MALE Primary Teacher Blogger!

I guess that sounds "sexist", doesn't it?  But I don't mean it that way.  I am always astounded when I see a male teacher in the primary grades.  They are few and far between!   They all seem to go for either intermediate grades, jr. high, or high school.  So many of our little ones NEED a male figure in their lives and it just makes my heart feel so good when a man will give his heart to the little ones.

Welcome, First Upon a Time!  I hope you all will check out his blog and give him a warm bloggers welcome!

P.S.  He's got such a great game for a freebie, too!

I Have....Who Has... New games!

It's SPRING BREAK!!! Whoo hoo!  I spent my first day staying in my p.j.'s and just trying to recuperate from doing report cards AND our Spring into Excellence Day (Fun Day outside with bouncy houses, games, snow cones, etc.!). Then, because my brain STILL hadn't slowed down, I spent the next day going through my school tubs, organizing my St. Paddy's Day and Dr. Seuss tubs for next  year and getting out my April tubs!

I did finally start getting into the spirit of the "holiday" and my husband, son, and I went to the port to have some great seafood and watch the boats coming and going!  Soooo relaxing.

Today....lunch with a bunch of teacher friends and planting a garden with my hubby.  We have tomatoes, beans, eggplant, broccoli, cucumbers, squash, corn, and herbs!  But my favorite.....SUNFLOWERS!  I am hooked on sunflowers ever since seeing them in Europe everywhere.  I even have some students hooked on them!

And tonight, I sat down with my laptop with plans to work on plans....and said, "Naaahh."  Instead, I have created a couple "I Have....Who Has...? games".  Such fun when I have time to "play"!  One game is for helping students subitize the numbers 0-20 and the other is for reinforcing geometric shapes, both requirements in our district.

Spring colored "I Have, Who Has...?" 2D and 3D Geometric Shapes

To go along with my Space Unit, I created two games.  This one uses ten frames.

This variation of the games uses dots for subitizing quantities to 20.

The first three people who comment on this post, follow me, and follow my Tpt store will receive both games for free!  Be sure to include your email address in your comment!

Teachers Helping Teachers

Crystal over at Kreative in Kindergarten is organizing assistance and donations to teachers who who touched by the devastation of the tornadoes in the past couple weeks.  Click on the heart above to learn more about how you can help.  Thanks, Crystal, for organizing this assistance.  When I see how policemen/sheriffs/firemen take care of their own, (we lost one of our localdeputies last week and enforcement officers came to Florida from as far away as Chicago  to the funeral) I am inspired.  I agree with your sentiments, Crystal.  Bless you and Anne.

Ooohhh, decisions, decision!  Do I have to?!  They are all soooo good!  I am humbled every time I look at a new blog.  They are all unique, and when I see what all these teachers are doing on their blogs, I think, "I want to be in that classroom!"....But I diverge.... Okay, here are 15.  But it could easily have been 150.  I didn't add some of the more well-known blogs that I follow, because I know they already have a lot of traffic.  But I do want them to know I still love their blogs: Deanna Jump, Kim Adsit....Okay, I better stop or I will leave somebody out!

Have You Seen the New Graphics?! Updated!

I have recently discovered several different graphics being offered for sale that are ADORABLE, with a capital A!!!  Check out The 3am Teacher!  Cute, cute, cute!

Photobucket

I created a game for my kinders using some of their graphics to help practice subitizing the numbers 1-20.  I just love EYE CANDY, don't you?!
You can see it at my Tpt store if you are interested. I have revised this to include coin counters for children to use in lieu of coloring in the coins  on the page so the page can be used over again.  Also, I included directions to 2 more games that could be played with the cards. (The counters didn't work.  I made them about the right size...IF you have to time cut around the coins.  But who in the world has time to do that?!  But you could use the counters for using with ten frames and counting.....)
Alternate idea:  How about using Lucky Charms cereal to cover each coin?!  Then the children could clear the board after the game, and munch on their 'markers' while they played a second game!

In Like a Lion....

Whoo hoo!  March has arrived!  Notice I didn't say, "Spring has arrived."  Because in Florida, it's been springtime since January!  The only noticable difference?  The wind.  It's a bit scary to think of how warm it's been and what that could possibly do to the ocean and the hurricane season this summer.  (Although my son and daughter and friends said that the ocean water was too cold to go into yesterday, even if they did come home sunburned!)

from animalwallpapers.com

For all of you still in the midst of winter, or if you have talked about hibernation in your classrooms, this is a MUST SEE video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=vJRDpTUIrJI&vq=medium . This clip is great for animal lovers and young children -- Momma Bear and her three very young cubs in the wild of northern Ontario , Canada . Humane wildlife experts taking a winter bear census right in the hibernation dens. You'll love this, besides the cute precious 6 week old baby bears (eyes still closed) the guy (Rick Mercer) has some of the funniest lines. This is a special video of retagging a mommy bear.
